Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste is that which presents a significant risk of harm to the environment, or human health, and contains the most elevated levels of contaminants according to the NSW EPA Waste Classification guidelines.

Hazardous waste of this kind is subject to several additional layers of regulation that apply not only to the generation of such waste, but also the storing, transporting, treating and disposing of the waste too.

At AES, we’re fully up to date with the numerous licences and permits required to legally dispose of the waste, and have many years of experience in this field.

First of all, if you don’t have it already, we can analyse the waste and produce an official waste classification report. After that we’ll advise on the most appropriate way of managing the waste. If your site happens to be in NSW there are currently no EPA licensed waste disposal facilities where you can dispose of hazardous waste to landfill. This leaves us with three options, and we can advise on the most appropriate for your particular circumstances.

Offsite transport - treatment and disposal - Sydney Metropolitan

Transportation to a NSW EPA hazardous waste treatment facility. Soil material will be treated under an established immobilisation approval (IA) and disposed of to landfill as a lower waste classification.

Offsite transport - treatment and disposal - Interstate

Transportation to an interstate EPA licensed waste treatment facility. Soil material will be treated under an established IA and disposed of to a landfill as a lower waste classification.

and disposal -
Interstate

Transportation and disposal to an interstate EPA licensed waste disposal facility.

Hazardous Waste Management Options:

The right option for you will depend on a variety of factors such as the quantity of soil that you have, where it’s located, the type and concentration of contaminants, along with the supply and demand considerations in the market. We’ll advise accordingly, and then help you dispose of the waste in a safe, environmentally friendly and legally compliant way.
