CONTAMINATED LAND – WHAT’S AT STAKE?

What is contaminated land? It is a specified land site that may be likely to endanger human beings, fauna and flora. Particularly in recent years, sites identified as potentially contaminated could also present significant development, legal and/or economic considerations. Because of its negative impact (environmental, social, commercial), awareness of contamination and methods to resolve it have increased in necessity as land demand continues to grow. Australian Enviro Services specialise in asbestos removal in Sydney and contaminated site remediation.

Increasingly, organisations, and, vitally, many government departments have broadened a better community understanding of the unavoidable effects of contaminated sites. In several ways, this has caused, at least partly, growth in legislation and environmental requirements for the bio-remediation of the contaminated land. Even in the last decade, state and federal governments now have many laws and policies controlling the function and re-claiming of contaminated land sites.

Adding to the problem, there are a large range of considerations inherent in land contaminations. Some examples are toxic materials on site, mislabelled or unidentified contaminants and multiple contaminations on a single site. Much professional care must be drawn on during the surveying, planning of work and removal of contamination for the sites so as to properly contain the contamination of the site.

If you need remediation of a contaminated site, contact Australian Enviro Services.
